Hoi An - in pictures

There are so many pictures when one travels.  Especially for three months. And even with all those photos, it's still hard to find the ones that capture what you saw/felt.

Not being a professional photographer, or extremely keen or intuitive on the whole business of photography, with just enough knowledge to know I don't go out in the right lighting, or patient enough to get a picture just right, I realize I am dependent on luck, buying a professional photograph and being okay that pictures are there to remind us of a memory.

I'm okay with that. I have to be.

So these are some of our moments in Hoi An......

Sights while biking throughout the rice fields and back streets.
You can't help but breathe deeply when you are in a sea of calm and relaxing green.

Biked to the famous "China Beach" with the mist rolling in.
Still warm and humid, but with a west coast tropical vibe.
This beach goes on for 30km.

Most hilarious salesman Extrodinaire to date in our two months or so of travels.
Mr. Thang, stall #34, SOLD!
He'd make it on any sales team!

The reality.... "No, you can't bike your bike there...Yes park your bike here.... I watch... It's okay.... Now pay!"
You can't fight it, so you keep smiling.

My Son Ruins... Dating back to the 4th century.
These are from the Cham tribe/people..... Enemies of the the Khmer, whose ruins we visited in Cambodia.
When you listen to either side talk about it, you can still hear a certain animosity,
Two officials wanted us to photograph them, and then they insisted they take one of our family.

Making rice milk the traditional way for our cooking class. What a lot of work!

We took in a cooking class with Thuan Tinh Cooking Tour and they did an amazing job. First a trip to the market, then a tour along the water, followed by a canoe ride through the water palm trees which they harvest to build their homes. The food was delicious and easy to make.  Like most good food. Simple fresh ingredients are what works!

A ferry ride to a small island, Cam Kim, which is known for its wood carving and boat building.
And as once again we took our bikes off the main roads, so we also found fields of green, small homes with lots of color, and everyone waving or saying hello.  No tourists, no markets filled with little  souvenirs, no cars. Just quiet.

Told Brad no! we aren't building a boat in our back yard.  So he bought a beer instead.
Cheap, but I think he'd willingly pay for a good hop head from back home.
